Justin Playfair is a New York judge who believes he is the famed sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. When his brother and sister-in-law attempt to get him committed, he is put under the care of a psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Watson, who finds there is something very real in Justin's delusion.
